CLAIM FOR £150,000
Bridge Dispute At Auckland (NX. Press Association) AUCKLAND. October 12. The Auckland Harbour Board dispute with the Auckland Harbour Bridge Authority for £150.000 compensation will be heard by Sir Joseph Stanton, a former Supreme Court Judge. Originally the board’s claim was to be heard in court. It will now be settled in arbitration. Both parties are anxious for an early settlement. When the bridge was opened on May 30, 1959, claims for compensation, apart from the harbour board, were lodged against the authority by the Devonport Steam Ferry Company the Auckland City Council, and a number of residents whose properties were affected. The council’s claims and those of the residents have been settled. The decision of the ferry company’s claims are now before the court and a decision is awaited.
