INFORMATION ON VEGETABLES
The Canterbury Horticultural Society has recently inaugurated a series Of lectures on various specialised aspects of gardening which may appeal to the home gardener who is interested in a general way, yet does not wish to join a specialist society. The first lectures given in this monthly series have been on fruit tree spraying and pruning, and on the home-garden lawn. This month's lecture is on “The vegetable garden,” and is open to all who wish to attend, whether members of the society or not. It will be held at the Y.W.C.A. Hall, off Latimer square, at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18. The speaker* will be Mr L. C. Hurndell. of the Horticultural Division, Department of Agriculture. Christchurch, who will discuss the important topic of pests and diseases in the vegetable garden, and their control; and Mr J. H. Glazebrook, senior lecturer in Horticulture, Lincoln College, who will diecuss some of those unusual vegetable* which add a touch of the exotic to the vegetable garden. It will be a most useful evening.
