A rider for Kelton had not been announced yesterday. An alternative programme for the War Game gelding would be a race at Banffiora next Friday, but he is in a stronger field at the North Canterbury meeting, so an Orari campaign may now be certain. Hopes for a Riccarton victory look fairly bright. Quick Time, second top weight with 8-5, distinguished himself in stronger fields than this last season. He made a late start in racing, and is carrying his 10 years lightly. That was evident when he ran a sound fifth in the Geraldine Cup, which was only his second start after a spell. Golden Howe will be another form runner for Riccarton. He was the outstanding hack at the Grand National meeting, where he won two .races. Then he started his open class racing with a second to Gay Tommy in the Ashburton Cup. Jesse Owens, a stronglyfinishing fourth in the Geraldine Cup, and the light, v lights Astra and Hand Over look the best of the others. The second Ig of the double tomorrow is the Stewards' Handicap. Royal Order outclassed her rivals in this race last year,
