Naval Reserve Veterans
“Non Sibi” (“not for oneself”) was the motto adopted by the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve Veterans’ Association at its annual meeting recently. This was half the motto of the Canterbury Division of the R.N.Z.N.V.R., “Non Sibi Sed Patriae” (“not for oneself but for one’s country”), said the secretary of the association (Mr L. G. S. Williams). The association also decided to offer its services to the civil defence organisation in time of emergency. Officers elected were:— Patron, Commander R. M. J. O’Connor; president, Mr W. F. Riley; vice-president, Mr I. Duns; secretary, Mr I* G. S. Williams; assistant secretary,' Mr F. G. Felton; minutes secretary, Mr J. N. Allan; treasurer, Mr J. Gill; chairman of social committee, Mr M. Hunter; publicity officer, Mr G, Felton; committee, Messrs J. Marsden F. Harwood, B. Box, S. Hall, R. M. Fail, W. Hodge, C. Pugh-Williams. N. V. J. Wilson, C. Macdonald, E. Bartlett, G. A. King, A. O'Brien, M. Beswick, H. Browning, C., Rosewame and L. Collingwood. The soul, secured in her existence, smiles at the drawn dagger, and defies its point.—Joseph Addison.
