EXTENDED TV HOURS
Maintenance Of Standard
(Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, Oct. 12. An assurance that an extension of television hours would not necessarily result in the lowering of standards was given in Parliament this afternoon by the Minister of Broadcasting (Mr Kinsella). Mr H. E. L. Pickering (Government, Hurunui) asked whether steps had been taken to ensure that as commercial television was extended. both the programmes and the material in the “spot” commercials would maintain high standards. “With the increase in transmission hours from Channels One and Three, many people are anxious that the good standards so far achieved in New Zealand’s television should be continued.” said Mr Pickering. Mr Kinsella said that holding the standard Of programmes at its present level had been yunder active consideration for some time. “We have already had six months of extended programmes in Auckland, and I believe the standard of those programmes has maintained itself.” he said. “As regards the commercial side, we have drawn up a system of standards as a guide to station managers and advertisers.”
