Hong Kong Imports

Sir,—The tears cascaded down my trembling cheeks as I read of what the cruel, nasty, inconsiderate public were doing to our benevolent, unselfish clothing retailers by sending to Hong Kong for cheap car coats. I became positively distraught when I remembered that last Monday a coat had arrived from Hong Kong for me. But I completely broke down when I recalled that only this morning I had gone on a post office crawl for British postal notes to buy another of these excellent garments. O unbearable guilt complex! How “unfair’ it is of me and my despicable kind to buy these coats direct, instead of through the misunderstood,

impoverished, public-spirited business houses of Christchurch! How unsporting not to support the noble cause of private enterprise, as practised by well-established oligopolists, and how antisocial to engage to private private enterprise! I die of mortification having previously signed myself. . . . Yours eft., UNCLE NG’S NEPHEW. , October 4, 1961.
