‘TROUSSEAU’ OF SILVER
Popular U.K. Custom LONDON, Sept. 30. Giving a silver spoon as a christening present, and then an additional spoon in the same pattern each birthday, is a custom which is gaining popularity in Britain, says a London correspondent. Thus a girl should have a full set of spoons by the time she marries. Jewellers are also finding that more and more relatives and friends are giving forks, spoons and even knives all in the same pattern so a girl can acquire an entire set of cutlery throughout the years. If she decides she would prefer silver, in lieu of the E.P.N.S. which she has already collected, many jewellers will arrange an exchange at additional cost or for a smaller quantity of silver.
When starting a collection of this nature it is best to choose a pattern which would go equally well in modern or traditional settings. The unadorned Old English style is perhaps the best choice.
