BLUEBELLS IN PARK
Good Display Expected The bluebells in Little Hagley Park are just coming into bloom and there should be a good display this year. In the past the bluebells have been depleted by many picnickers who have picked armfuls of the flowers because they appeared to be growing wild. Children, too. have not been able to resist them with the result that instead of spreading further over the park the bluebells have just been holding their own.
They were planted by the Soroptimists’ Club of Christchurch some years ago and many thousands of bulbs were given by Christchurch people. If left alone, the bluebells will seed and multiply to an outstanding display and for this reason the club appeals to the public not to pick them this year.
