Traffic Institute Officers
(N Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, October 6. Officers of the New Zealand Traffic Institute elected at the annual conference in Dunedin, were: president, Mr N. D. Anderson (Dunedin); vice-presidents, Mr M. N. Manthel (Wellington), Miss M. McLean (Christchurch); executive, Messrs G. Black (Hawke’s Bay). A. C Davidson (Napier). W. J. Ailingham (Mt. Eden), E. C. Keenan (Newmarket), C. S. Passmore (Auckland). R. Merrick (Onehunga), T. W. Nicholls (Auckland), N. A. Lake superintendent (Auckland): J. Anderson superindent (Wellington) P. Lunn superintendent (lsunedin).
Next year’s conference will be held in Christchurch in September.
Jockey Equals Record The American jockey, Johnny Sellers, equalled an American turf record when he won the first five races at an Atlantic City race meeting yesterday. Sellers, who won three consecutive races on Tuesday, thus equalled the record of riding eight consecutive winners set by Howard Craig in July. 1951. Sellers has ridden 304 winners this year to make him a near certainty to win the 1961 American national riding championship. Two jockeys, Albert Whittaker, of New Zealand, in 1910. and W. Thomas, of Australia, in 1929. have ridden seven winners in seven races on a single day. Angel Baratucci, of Argentina, won eight consecutive races in 1957, United Press International said.— (Atlantic City, October 5.)
Rocket Test— The second of four British Skylark research rockets carrying instruments tor the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration was successfully fired at the Woomera rocket range on Wednesday night—Canberra, October 6.
