Inclusion In Award For Engine-Drivers
(*Z Press Association) WELLINGTON. Oct. 6. Weekly wage increases from 5s to 7s ’Sd are made in the engine-drivers, firemen’s and greasers’ (general section) award issued by the Arbitration Court.
The award has a clause, agreed to in conciliation, stating that it shall not be lawful for any employer bound by the award to employ an adult not a member of the union. In a memorandum, Mr Justice Tyndall draw's attention to the Court’s opinion expressed on this matter. The Court has stated that, in these cases, the requirement for a worker to be a member of a particular union can, in certain circumstances. be inconsistent with the I.C. and A. Act and therefore invalid.
