Seaman Drowned At Lyttelton
A member of the crew of the coastal vessel River City was drowned at Lyttelton on Thursday evening when “he fell between the" wharf and the ship's side. He was James Patrick Cusack, aged 56, a motorman in the ship. His cries for help were heard by the master (Captain R. D. Stewart) who organised the rescue. The ship’s cook was lowered into the water and hauled the motorman aboard. Subscriptions totalling £56,250 were received by the North Canterbury Hospital Board towards its £Bl,OOO loan up to noon yesterday, representing about 70 per cent of the total. The loan evened on Monday. The 1964 portion of the loan- has a J ! been t ? keD up filled for the 1966 portion, the remainder being due in 1971. .
