ROCKET SOCIETY PRESIDENT
Dr. W. H. Pickering Elected (NZ. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 3. Dr. W. H. Pickering, who was born in Wellington, will be the new president of • the American Rocket Society, according to advice received by the United States Embassy. Elected by the society memibershipv Dr. Pickering will assume office next January. The society comprises about 20,000 space scientists and engineers. A special space flight report to the nation will be presented during its annual meeting in New York from October 9 to October 15.
Dr. Pickering is director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, operated by the California Institute of Technology tor the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. He has had major roles in many United States missile and satellite projects.
