DOMINION MONARCH
Last Visit To Lyttelton The 26.463-ton Shaw, Savill and Albion liner Dominion Monarch is visiting Lyttelton for the last time. She will make one more voyage from Britain to Australia and New Zealand before being broken up. During the Second World War the vessel was converted from a first-class passenger liner to a troop ship. She carried more than 90,000 British. American and New
Zealand servicemen to and from the battle areas and had several narrow escapes from underwater and airborne attacks. Her present master (Captain K. D. G. Fisher) will retire at the end of this voyage. He went to sea in 1913. and saw service as a Royal Naval Reserve officer in the First World War. During the Second World War he was awarded the George Medal for gallantry.
Two farewell functions will be held aboard, one this evening and another on Friday evening.
