Fluoridation

Sir,—My suggeatlon for fluoridating milk was made in an effort to stimulate a more flexible approach towards a long overdue health measure. I believe the ratepayers’ money should be spent in the most efficient way possible, and I believe that fluoride should not be forced upon the minority who strongly object to it, regardless of whether their objections are rational or irrational. I believe people should always be given as much freedom of choice as circumstances and the rights of others allow. A friend of mine has suggested that fluoridation of salt would be more convenient and inexpensive than fluoridation of either nrilk or waiter. On reflection I agree with him. and am accordingly writing to a salt firm to ask if they would consider packaging "halogenated” |»U, i.e., salt, containing both iodide and fluoride. When I receive a reply I will discuss the matter further.—Yours, etc, M.D.S. October 2, 1961.
