PREFABRICATED EXCHANGE
Unit Transported To Springfield
A new fully-equipped auto|matic telephone exchange for Springfield was prefabricated in Christchurch and transported to the site recently in what is believed to be the first operation of its kind in New Zealand.
Normally, the exchange equipment is installed on the site, but because of the distance of Springfield from the city, the prefabricated method was devised and successfully carried through. The exchange is now being connected to the outside cabling.
The exchange, which has 100 lines, is due to come into operation in November, to coincide with the issue of the new Christchurch district telephone directory.
