RUGBY Taranaki Captain To Come Before Manawatu Union
(.New Zealand Prase Association;
P\LAIERSTON N., Oct. 2. As a result of being ordered off in the Taranaki-Mana-vrato Rugby match at Palmer•ton North on Saturday, the Taranaki captain, I. H. Macdonald, will appear before the management committee of the Manawatu Rugby Union, and not the Taranaki Union, a New Zealand Rugby Union ofiiciai said today. The match waa under the jurisdiction of the Manawatu union.
Last year, in the Ranfuriy Shield match at Eden Park between Auckland and Northland, one oi the Northland players was ordered off. He appeared before the Auckland union, not his own, and was suspended for a week. Players ordered off in interIsland matches, however, have been dealt wuh by the New Zealand Rugby Union because She North-South matches, like tests, are under the jurisdiction of the New Zeeland Rugby Union. Macdonald "Amazed” “I *u quite amazed when the referee. Mr F. Parkinson, ordered me off the field some time alter the incident,” said Macdonald, according to a Press Association message. Macdonald said he was quite sure the referee was
• bamboozled” into ordering him off.
Describing the incident, Macdonald said: "I saw a lot of lacking in the ruck and one of our players being booted, I grabbed hold of she Manawatu player who I thought was responsible and spun him to the ground. That was all there was to
Macdonald said that the Taranaki teem had been accorded one of the worst receptions ever from the crowd.
The referee Mr Parkinson, has made a written report to the Manawatu union regard-
ing the circumstances in Which he ordered Macdonald off
The report would be re* ceived “in committee.'’ said the chairman of the union's managemen: committee, Mr J. Payne It is not the practice of the Manawatu union's management committee to adjudicate in cases of ordering off. The union has a special Judicial committee, which receives the referee's report, hears evidence, and decides penalties. Macdonald still has one playkm engagement to fulfil this season. He has been chosen to play for the King Country Foresters’ team next Saturday. Unless hi* case is heard and dealt with before then, he will not be able to Play.
