“QUEEN OF THE BALLROOM”

S.L Tide Contest This Week

The 1961 South Island “Queen of the Ballroom" contest will be' held this week at the Heaton street Intermediate Hall by the Federal Association of Teachers of Dancing as part of their spring festival of dancing. Finalists taking part will be Lovena Newton, vahnai Longley, Janice Pluck, Aileen Cooke, Louise Badlands, Diane Davies, Margaret Hfinning, Pauline Cosgrove, Lynette Cohen, Elizabeth Williams, Martha Cooke, Mary Hall. Isobel Gillies, Glenys Robb, and Wendy Bonshor. The competitors will be judged on poise, personality, general appearance and ability in dancing. In conjunction with the contest will be the South Island finals of the South Pacific ballroom championship* in maiden, intermediate and open grades. The winners of these events will compete in the 1961 South Pacific ballroom championships in Auckland on October 14.

The above events will be judged by Miss Enyd Connelly, of Sydney, who is also conducting examinations in New Zealand on behalf of toe Federal Association of Teachers of Dancing. Miss Connelly will arrive in Christchurch on Thursday. She will be later joined in Auckland by a team of seven couples from her own school in Sydney, who are all competing in the South Pacific championships.
