Man Assaulted Girl

Charged wtih assaulting a 14-year-old girl at Lyttelton on Saturday afternoon, Ray Burton Quilliam, aged 35, a workman, was convicted and fined £5 when he appeared before Captain A. R. Champion and Mr A. M. Miller, Justices of the Peace, in the Lyttelton Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Senior-Sergeant D. G. M. Simpson said that Quilliam had walked across the street and asked the girl the tir-.e. He had then put his arm round her. The girl had hurried home and told her parents, who called the police. Quilliam said that he had been drinking.
