The Royal Air Forra went into action today with a dramatie air-lift of food to hundreds of viUagens in northern Kenya threatened by floods. Tons of food were pmchuted to the stricken villagers as the rising floodwaters smashed houses to pieces. Several villages in the Tana River basin are reported to have disappeared, and at least 10 persons have been drowned. Some areas have had Win of rain in two days. The aircraft were flown from Nairobi to Mombasa on Saturday to help relieve the marooned tribesmen. They parachuted food to 400 natives in the village of Garsen. one of the worst hit arees. Even after the flood recedes, tribesmen who live by fishing and crops grown on river banks, will have to be f ed, as all crops in the area have been destroyed. Mercy flights will continue tomorrow when the R-A.F. drops more food at the mouth of the Tana river, where 200 refugees have already (gathered.
