TEMPORARY JUDGE
Mr F. C. Spratt Appointed
(NX. Prate Association) WELLINGTON, October 2. The appointment of Mr F. C. Spratt, Q.C., of Wellington, as a temporary judge of the Supreme Court was announced today by the Attor-ney-G.neril (Mr Hanan). Mr Spratt was appointed a Queen's counsel fast week. Born at Auckland. Mr Spratt was educated at Christ's College and at Canterbury University College, where be graduated U.B. He began practice in Christchurch in 1813. and later was partner in the Hawera firm of Halllwell, Spratt and Thomson.
. he b, ® aa Practice in Wellington, and the next year, whou Mr Justice Smith was appointed a judge of the Supreme Court, took his place in the firm now known as Morison, Spratt, Taylor ani vonpany. Mr Spratt has had a wide experience in litigation on Maori land. He represented Maori claimants before th? Royal Commbsiogs on toe Mabia block and the West Coast settlement reserves in 1947. He appeared for the Crown before the Royal Commissions on the Lake Taupo tributaries snd ‘ha waterfront industry, and for the New Zealand Alliance before ths Royal Commission cm Licensing in 1945. ; Ht hai been JprasMant of toe Wellington District Law Society and a member of the council and standing committee of toe New Zealand ■nd toe rules committee.
