ESCAPE FOR BOY
100-Foot Drop In Car (N.Z. Press As«octo*jon* AUCKLAND, October 1. A 15-year-old schoolboy escaped with concession when the car he was driving left the road and crashed 100 feet down an almost sheer cliff into a river in the Hunua Gorge about 5 p.m. today. St. John Ambulance men strapped .him in a special stretcher which was hauled by rope up to the road agajn The boy, Albert Edward Fowler, of 32 Ballin street, Ellerslie, was admitted to Middlemore Hospital. His condition tonight was fair. The car he was driving left the road about six miles from Papakura, plunged 60 feet. Mt the cliff and bounced off ltd" land on its wheels in a foot of water. Although the car was wrecked the boy managed to get out and walk about 30 feet. He collapsed on rocks at the edge of the river. The crash as the. car hit the bottom was heard by children who gave warning of the accident.
