KINDERGARTEN TEACHERS
Golden Jubilee Reunion
Kindergarten teachers who trained in Christchurch celebrated their golden jubilee reunion, held as part of the fiftieth anniversary of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association, during the week-end.
On Saturday evening about 100 graduates attended a conversazione at the Mayfair Lounge.
Speakers were the president of the Christchurch Kindergarten Graduates’ Club (Miss I. Orange), Miss D, Willis, one of the earliest graduates, and Miss R. Wilkie, principal of the Christchurch Kindergarten Teachers’ College. Mrs D. King presented flowers to the speakers. Mrs D. Taylor sang a bracket of songs accompanied by Miss J. Tregurtha. Yesterday morning many of the graduates attended matins at the Christchurch Cathedral to mark the association’s jubilee. In the afternoon they held an “at home” at the college in Park terrace, where displays of hand-made musical instruments, dolls, glove puppets and old photographs were on view. About 60 attended.
Specially invited guests to the “at home” included the following:—Mrs H. Downer (Rotorua), president of the New Zealand Free Kindergarten Union; Mrs A. F. Johnson, president of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association, and members of the association’s festival committee.
During the week graduates, who have come from many parts of New Zealand to attend the reunion, will visit kindergartens. They have also been invited to a reception to be held on Wednesday evening by the Christchurch association for delegates and observers attending the annual conference of the New Zealand Free Kindergarten Union.
