Inquiries At Ashburton

(NZ. Press Association) ASHBURTON, Oct. 1. Fallacious climbed over the back of Foam’s sulky, causing an accident in which Fallacious and Chances Are lost their drivers, it was found at an inquiry into the running of the Mount Somers Handicap at .the Ashburton Trotting Club's spring meeting on Saturday. The incident occurred about three furlongs from home. J. G. Hampton, the driver of Fallacious, was fined £lO for careless driving. • Before the running of the Chertsey Handicap, Marlon Haste, driven by L. A. Wigzell, was ordered to be withdrawn by the stipendiary stewards on the ground that the owner had failed to race the horse with half hopples. Wigzell was fined £5. Tuxan bored badly in the first division of the Eiffelton Handicap, causing interference with Ka tanning, which came back on to Lady Helen and Morano Boy. This caused them to break, an Inquiry found. A. J. Stokes, the driver of Young Garry in the Eiffelton Handicap, was warned to keep his foot in the rest. A spring clip In the barrier had stretched and become useless, the official starter, Mr L. E. Carter, told an inquiry into the two false starts in the Chertsey Handicap. R. P. Nyhan, the driver of Highland Heath in the Ashburton Flying Stakes, was warned for failing to keep hit foot in the rest. I. S. ■ Sutherland, the trainer of Frown, was warned that the barrier manners of the horse must show improvement, otherwise action would be taken.
