Bowls UMPIRES ELECT OFFICERS
The following officers were i elected at the annual meeting i of the Christchurch Bowling i Centre Umpires’ Association : Patron, Mr F. W. Larcombe; i president, Mr J. T. Butler; < past-president. Mr F. C. Hartland; senior vice-president. Mr S Eyre: junior vice-president. Mr A. K. Aldridge; secretary- i treasurer. Mr D. Dickson: auditor. Mr J. A Sladen; committee. Messrs N A. Gandall. ' C. Hansen. J. A. Moloney, L G Jones E. J. Woolf. I Opening Ceremonies Hehl By Two Clubs The Sumner and Lvttelton Bowling Clubs held their official openings on Saturday. A big attendance was wel- < corned to the opening at the Sumner club by the president : (Mr C. P Philpott). The Mayor (Mr G. Manning) complimented the club on the con- 1 dition of the green and its surroundings. After Mrs Williams, wife of the vice-president, had thrown 1 the first kitty and Mrs Philpott had played the first bowl. Mr Philpott officially declared the season open. Lyttettoa Club The president of the Lyttelton club (Mr L. A Mitchell) welcomed members and friends He said members would be oleased with the surface of the green, which had been top-j dressed for the opening. | The Mavor of Lyttelton (Mr J B Coriett) was representedi by Mr F Barrett, who declared .the season open after Bruce Mitchell had thrown the first kitty and Mrs Mitchell had played the first bowl.
