Rugby And Soccer
More than 200 bovs took part in the annual Rugby seven-a-side and soccer " six-a-side tournaments held bv the Canterbury Battalion of the Boys’ Brigade on Saturday at South Hagley Park
Rugby Twelve junior and four senior teams took part in the Rugbv competition. Winners of the finals were:—
Juniors—l2 th Christchurch Company (St. Ninian's Presbyterian! beat 2nd Christchurch (St Martin’s Church of England). 6-3. The St. Ninian's team was: R Gainsford. M Huston. C. Wright. R. Jones. R. Hickln. W McKay, and J. Bovd.
Seniors.—Sth Christchurch Company i Shirley Methodist) boat Ist Christchurch Company(Colombo street Baptist). 8-0. The Shirlev team wss: C. Freeman. T Freeman, S Richards. W Richards. N. Pierce. N. Mitchell. and R. Carson.
Soecer Ten open grade and three Junior teams took part tn the soccer competition. Winners of the finals were:—
Juniors.—27th Christchurch Company (Opawa Methodist) beat 20th Christchurch Company (Woolston Methodist) by four points (1 goal and I corner) to one point (J corner). The Opawa team was: R Abrams. J. Mav. L. Robinson. N. Gray. P. Shirley. A. Melbourne. R Nuttall Open Grade—3rd Christchurch Company (St. Albans Presbyterian) beat 28th Christchurch Company (St. Peter's Presbyterian) by four points (one goal and one comer) to one point (one comer). The St Albans team was: A Murray. D Merlo. B. Haines. A. Wallace. S Carruthers. K Cr'bb. M. Cribb
Games tn both codes were controlled by union and association referees. This is the second successive year that the Sth Christchurch Company and the 3rd Christchurch Company have won the major grade of their respective competitions.
