Horticultural Show Held At Riccarton

Judges were impressed with the 645 entries in the Riccarton Horticultural Society's spring show held at Riccarton House on the week-end. Mr M. J. Barnett, judge of the cut flowers and pot plants, said the polyanthus primroses were very good snd the pot plants, both foliage and flowering, were first class. -They are much better than at the big show in the city,” he said. The decorative section saw some interesting arrangements. To introduce themes into their displays, arrangers used imitation animals, birds, and a variety of including tiles. The "Spirit of Spring” display by Mrs P. Richie, which was the award of merit in this section, was recessed into a square resembling a picture frame.

The judge of the decorative section (Mrs I. Robson) said she was impressed by the high standard of entries Children's entries were par- ' cularly good, in some cases exceeding the standard of the adult entries.
