A PRECISION SEEDER, imported from Scotland by Mr C.D. Rudd, Christchurch, shown oc the property of Mr A. Banks at Coutts Island this week. For this photograph, the seeder unit was lifted out of the soil. At Coutts Island, the seeder was sowing mangolds in four rows at a time at Min spacings. From seed hoppers, the seeds are carried to the delivery spout by a flexible rubber belt with indentations. As the belt passes over a small idler roller at the rear of the driving pulley, the flexing of the belt under pressure causes the holes to widen so that the seed is released. The coulters and the rollers which follow them float independently. The disc markers carried on either side of the machine can be dropped down to indicate the location of the next row.
