HURRICANE DAMAGE
500 m Dollars By “Carla”

Fifteen hundred homes in Texas and Louisiana were completely destroyed by hurricane “Carla,” White House officials disclosed today in announcing a request to Congress for a supplementary appropriation of 55 million dollars to meet some of the damage. “Carla", struck the Gulf coast area two weeks ago. In addition to those destroyed, 5500 homes suffered damage of more than 4000 dollars and a further 41,000 sustained damage less than 1000 dollars.
Damage to small businesses ih Texas amounted to 80 million dollars and to 10 million dollars in Louisiana. Total damage sustained in the two States was said to be in excess of 500 million dollars.
The White House said that of the 55 million dollars requested, 30 million dollars was for the Small Business Administration to make disaster loans. The remainder would go to other Government agencies for relief measures.
