Teryman Disqualified
Teryman was disqualified from racing until September 30 at an inquiry after the Henry Mace Handicap at New Brighton on Saturday. Teryman broke after two furlongs.
A report from the stipendiary steward. Mr J. H. Lang, said C. C. Devine, Teryman’s owner-trainer, wished to race Teryman in some American gear.
Devine was advised to submit the gear to the New Zealand Trotting Conference for approval. As the gear had not been approved on Saturday he was not allowed to use it.
An inquiry was held into the breaking of Mossman with seven furlongs to go in the Maiden Event.. K. Purdon said that Mossman broke when pulled out to avoid a horse in front, which was stopping.
Pardon’s explanation was accepted. Doctor Dan, which broke a shaft when he reared at the
start, broke in the running and again at the straight entrance.
His driver. D. G. Jones, anticipated the horse’s break at the straight and pulled Doctor Dan wide, clear of trouble.
The breaking of Regina Chief with just over a furlong to go was the subject of an inquiry after the Bowhill Handicap. T. F. Thompson said Chelsea Lady, which he was following, stopped quickly. Regina Chief was Checked and broke. Thompson’s explanation was accepted. C. R. Beckett was warned about the barrier manner of Sarona, which broke’ and ran out at the start, checking several runners. D. C. Watts, the driver, said Sarona had shied at the starter. Nevan broke with about seven furlongs to go when he jumped some paper on the track.
Schnapps and Jay Ar lost their chance when their sulky wheels locked at the start in the Seaview Handicap. Satyr broke and ran out at the end of 100 yards, and Pacemaker collided with him. Satyr was free of interference when he broke.
