Auckland Colts Beat Taranaki
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. 17. An unimpressive Auckland Colts team trounced an inexperienced Taranaki Rugby League representative side, 51-11, on Saturday in one of the poorest provincial matches seen at Carlaw Park for a long time. The Auckland side led 12-6 at halftime. With only two or three players tackling consistently and safely, Taranaki left big overlaps when its wings and centres came infield to cover unmarked Aucklanders. Scorers for Auckland were R. Fenton (3), B. Mclnnerney (2), E. Wiggs (2). A. Gyde, D. Ellwood, N. White and R. McCarthy. N. White kicked three conversions and three penalty goals and R Haddon was successful with three conversions. For Taranaki, B. Southern scored a try and kicked two penalty goals. F. Sturmey kicked a conversion.
