MARINA FOR TAUPO
Rotorua Firm’s Project “The Press" Special Service * AUCKLAND, Sept. 3. A £35,000 contract for the construction of a new marina at Western Bay, Lake Taupo, 14 miles from Taupo township, has been let to a Rotorua firm. Work will start on Monday. It is hoped it will be finished next summer. Two joined basins, totalling 420 feet long and 120 feet wide, have to be excavated and will provide 90 permanent berths for boats up to 35 feet long. The take entrance will be protected by two breakwaters and will have rock facings, as will the rest of the sides of the marina. The depth of water in the marina when the lake is at minimum level will be five feet and at maximum level 10 feet. Provision has been made for a multi-car launching I ramp. Petrol-and oil pumps, boat repair facilities and haulingiout arrangements for bigger launches have also been pro■vided for..
