Roll Called

From Plaque

The traditional church pennant flew over H.M.N.Z.S. Pegasus yesterday morning while a roll was called to which there was no response. It was the annual commemoration service of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve Veterans’ Association, and the roll was the list of names on the association's Memorial Plaque. The commemoration service was conducted by the Rev. J. F. Feron, honorary chaplain to the association, and the First Canterbury Regimental Band provided the accompaniment, A wreath was laid beneath the memorial plaque by Commander R. M. J. O'Connor, commanding officer of H.M. N.Z.S. Pegasus, and Mr S. Hall, president of the association.

Lessons were read by Commander O’Connor and Captain J. N. Allan. Guests of honour were the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr G. Manning', the Town Clerk (Mr C. S. Bowie), Group Captain S. G. Quill, station commander at Wigram, Captain P. F. Hayes, adjutant of the First Battalion. Canterbury Regiment, and Captain G. R. Willis, also representing the regiment; and Captain D. J. Boyle. R.N.Z.N, Retd., the original commanding officer of the Canterbury division of the R.N.V.R.
