UMPIRING FAULTS

Complaints At Conference (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. 3. Umpiring came under fire at the half-yearly conference of the New Zealand Badminton Federation in Auckland yesterday. Delegates criticised rule interpretation differences and claimed many leading New Zealand players persisted in fault serving. Mr N. L Dickson, chairman of the federation’s management committee, said there was a wide variation in rule interpretations between Australia and New 'Zealand and also between the provinces in New Zealand. "We won’t get uniformity in umpiring until the district associations form a national badminton umpires’ association,” he said. On the motion of Mr H. B. Lu'bransky, convenor of the national selection panel, the conference decided to recommend to the management committee that a school for umpires be incorporated in the next national coaching school. The conference supported the management committee’s policy of sending promising young players overseas for experience. Mr Dickson said the committee was at the moment ‘‘looking for a sponsor to send selected juniors to Eng’ nd for the All-England tournament.’’
