Turner (Australia) had good wins in the first round of the United States lawn tennis championships at Forest Hills today. Miss Lehane beat Miss Varner (United States) and Miss Turner beat another American, Miss B. Gunderson, in three sets. Men's Singles. First round: V. Seixas (U-S-A.) beat D. Lynch (U.S.A.), 7-5, 6-4, 6-0; C. Crawford (U.S.A.) beat J. Mangan (U.S.A.), 6-2, 6-1, 6-3. Women's Singles. First round: L. Turner (Australia) beat B. Gunderson (U.S.A.), 2-6, 6-3, 6-4; J. Lehane (Australia) beat M. Varner (U.S.A,), 6-2, 6-1; A. Haydon (Britain) beat B. Benigni .(U.S.A.), 6-0. 6-3; A. Mortimer (Britait) beat V. Brown (U.S.A.), 6-0. 6-2.
