DEFEAT FOR GUERILLAS

stli Victorian Battle

(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) SAIGON, September 2. One hundred and fifteen Communist guerfflas have been killed by South Vietnam Government troops in a three-diay battle. Government Army and Air Force units led a running batt-le just outside Can Tho, capital of the rich ricelands area south of Saigon. Casualties and battle details were announced today by an Army spokesman. Government losses were only two dead and eight wounded, he said. Military observers considered this figure improbable. Authoritative military sources refused to comment on the number of Government dead, buit outlined progress of the battle. They said it was climaxed by the rout of guerilla forces about 12 miles north-west of Can Tho, a city of about 150,000 people.
