Three Hospital Fires During Week-end
Two small fires at Christchurch Hospital and one at Burwood Hospital were among the 10 calls answered by the Christchurch Fire Brigade during the weekend. A call from Christchurch Hospital and one from Burwood were both received at 3.45 a.m, on Saturday. Hot embers from a fire in a dining room at Christchurch Hospital caused slight damage to a wooden fire screen and the floor. Two units from the central station attended. The call from Burwood Hospital was to a chimney fire, which caused no damage. One unit each from the St. Albans and the central stations attended. The other fire at Christchurch Hospital was caused by paraffin in an operating room steriliser overheating and igniting at 12 8 a.m. yesterday. There was slight damage. One unit from the central station attended.
A wall of a fish shop , at 136 Marshland road was slightly damaged when cooking fat ignited at 8.14 a.m. on Saturday. The premises are occupied by Malcolm James Clough. One unit each from the central and St Albans stations attended. No damage was caused by
an oven fire in a house occupied by Norman Stewart Proctor, at 10 Pembroke street. One unit from Woolston attended at 6.9 pm, on Saturday.
A fire in a car was started by a cigarette which dropped on to a cushion when the vehicle was involved in an accident in Pages road at 7.34 p.m. on Saturday. The cushion was slightly damaged. The car is owned by Albert Saur, of 37 Merrington crescent. One unit from Woolston attended.
A mattress was slightly damaged by a fire at 93 Ferry road at 1238 a.m. yesterdiay. The cause of the fire is unknown. Two units from the central station attended.
An oven fire at premises at 22 Stoneyhurst street, owned by Norman Shorter, caused no damage. One unit from St. Albans attended at 12.7 p.m. yesterday. No damage was done by a chimney fire in a house at 75 Waimea terrace, occupied by Pearl Eileen Fabian, at 1234 p.m. yesterday. One unit from Sydenham attended.
Another chimney fire in a house at 36 Harris crescent, owned by lan Linney, caused no damage. One unit from St. Albans attended at 5 p.m. yesterday.
