Russian Nuclear Tests

Sir,—On behalf of the Youth Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament we would like to take this opportunity to express our deep regret at the Soviet Government’s decision. to resume nuclear tests. We hope that the Governments of the United States, Great Britain and France will not follow the example of the Soviet Government, certainly not until world opinion has had a chance to make itself felt on the Soviet Government, We do not consider that nuclear testing by any nation can be justified morally or strategically in the present world situation.— Yours, etc., B. A. TAPPER, (Chairman). MIA BRUSSE, (Hon. Secretary). September 2, 1961.

Sir, —One of the compensations for having to listen to the kind of rubbish promulgated by some of our citizens is the sure knowledge that sooner or later we shall be treated to the hilarious spectacle of Big Brother Khrushchev pulling the rug from under their feet Evidently Mr K. has more trouble than his local minions in maintaining the role of peacemaker—his robe will persist in slipping off and disclosing the hair and claws beneath. No wonder Russia is producing such excellent gymnasts!—Yours, etc., K. W. ADAMS, . September 3, 1961.
