Records fell all around at the Keeneland (United States) Summer Yearling Sales held last month. ... *s- j) The aggregate of 4.225.000 dollars was 111.520 dollars higher than the previous best set in 1946; the average price of 14.177 dollars was far in excess of any previous; return; and the top individ-i ual prices 130000 dollars, is; a world record. This price was paid for a colt by Swaps from Obedient. by Mahmoud. It was; paid by Mr Humphrey Fin-; ney, acting for Mr J. M. Olin. The record-priced colt is a chestnut with four white feet, and was sold from the consignment of Leslie Combs n. He was sold in less time ' than it took his sire to run one mile and a quarter, and 1 Swaps never wasted time over that distance. The previous highest bid in the United S’ates for an auction yearling was 87,000 dollars paid for Rise *n| Shine at Saratoga in 1956. The previous highest bid in the world for an auction j yearling was 28,009gns paid for Sayajirao in 1945. which; at the exchange rate then in effect was the equivalerU of 112,000 dollars. Second Highest Price The second highest price at the Keeneland sales this year was 70.000 dollars for a filly by Nashua (by Nasrullah) out of Beau Jet, byJet Pilot. This was a world record for a filly. The leading sice with three or more lots sold was Nas-; rullah, which has had a tremendous influence on breeding in the United States since his arrival there from Ireland in 1950.
He has been leading sire four times in the last six years, and, though he- died two years ago. he has numerous sons in American studs.
Nashua, son of Nasrullah, was represented by five yearlings this year. They averaged 37.000 dollars. Tulyar was represented by two yearlings, which averaged 16.000 dollars.
