FERRY FOR NELSON

Board Will Make Report (From Our Own Reporter) NELSON, August 22. A preliminary report on the' practicability and economics of providing facilities for a Cook Strait vehicular ferry at Nelson will be prepared for the Nelson Harbour Board. “It is possible that we may be included in a triangular rail-ferry service in the future, and a report would enable us to know what provisions would have to be made,” said Mr J. H. Brunt when the board met recently. Mr S. L. Thawley: It is not an immediate prospect. Mr E. Pearce: I think you will find that they will have enough work at Picton to keep them busy without coming the extra miles to Nelson.

Captain F. A. Barrett said it appeared the proposed ferry would do only one round trip a day between Picton and Wellington. “I think that if Nelson wants a ferry, it will have to have one of its own," he said.
