MAORIS AT PICTURES
Discrimination Alleged (IV .2. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 13. Concern at alleged discrimination in respect to the admittance of Maoris to cinemas was expressed at the seventh annual conference today of Maori students. The conference resolved that in view of the statement of the Minister of Justice (Mr Hanan) to the conference of the Maori Women s Welfare League in Hamilton to the effect that he would not tolerate any racial discrimination by hotel licensees, the Minister be asked to review the licences of picture theatre proprietors who discriminated against Maori patrons. Moving the resolution, Mr B. Kernot, of Pukekohe, gave an instance of one cinema which, he alleged, practised racial discrimination by admitting only Maoris to whom it had issued passes.
