TROTTING Trotting Conference Shows Loss Of £2030

A loss of £2030 for the year ended May 31 is shown in the accounts to be presented at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Trotting Conference in Christchurch next Wednesday. Office salaries and audit fees increased by £1714 from £5230 to £6944 and it was the largest contributor to the loss. However, there should be a decrease in this item next year.

Swabbing expenses rose to £3478 from £2711 and stipendiary stewards’ fees and expenses rose to £9713. compared with £8915. The racecourse inspectors' levy rose to £3315 from £2925. and printing and stationery increased to £1460 from £925. General expenses also increased, reaching £1877. compared with £1540. The only other increase of note was income tax, which reached £B7B, compared with £227. The most notable declines in expenditure were appeal costs (£BB, compared with £B7s> and inquiries (£169. compared with £606). Dur* ing the previous year, hearings of drawn-out swabbing cases and subsequent appeals were a heavy cost. Travelling expenses decreased to £1619, compared with £2203. Levies received from clubs throughout New Zealand during the year amounted to £23.479, compared with £21.663. The levies provided most of the income of the conference. Other items of income, with the figures for the previous year in parenthesis, are:—Proportion of expenses in administering the amenities and sulky funds, £1512 i£1730); licence fees, £1319 i £1126): registration of horses. £1094 (£1125); broadcasting fees- £1056 (£1023); interest. £955 (£918); and fines. £747 (£768). The accumulated funds account, which appears for the first time, shows the conference had to pay £1238 in income tax short provided. The balance-sheet shows the conference has investments valued at £18.289. Investments in the provident fund are shown at £10,659. Claims paid during the year amounted to £754 and interest amounting to £430 was received. During the year claims totalling £1936 were paid from the sulky fund and contributions amounted to £2475. Irvine, is due to leave Lyttelton today for Sydney with the three-year-old, Cardiogram, which he intends to race at country meetings in New South Wales in the next few weeks. Cardiogram showed considerable promise in his racing this season, but was nervous at the start ot his races. He had 10 starts for one win and two placings. His win was at Forbury Park early in February when he deadheated with Adios Duenna in the Ferguson Stakes. Cardiogram is a three-year-old colt by Light Brigade from Lady Nairne. He was bred by Mr J. W. G. Irving, at Oamaru. and purchased for 1000 guineas at the 1959 National Yearling Sales by Irvine.
