EAST BERLIN, July 4. The Communist leader of East Berlin. Mr Walter Ulbricht, today solicited the support of Marshal Tito of Jugoslavia for the Communist pressure on West Berlin. Mr Ulbricht sent Marshal Tito a telegram on the 20th anniversary of the Jugoslav uprising against the Nazi occupation during World War IL the Associated Press reported. The text, distributed by the official East German new: agency, AD.N„ conveyed good wishes to the Jugoslavs and recalled the partisans’ heroic fight for liberation against the Nazis.
Mr Ulbricht then said that East Germany was fighting to eliminate the remnants of World War II in the conviction that a decisive contribution to the securing of peace for all European states would be a peace treaty with both German states and the elimination of the West Berlin trouble spot “We are certain of the support of the Jugoslav people in this noble endeavour,” he said. Jugoslavia is the only country outside the Soviet bloc to give diplomatic recognition to East Germany. The West German Government broke off relations with Jugoslavia because of this recognition.
