RESEARCH ON WOOL

Plans For Lincoln (N.Z. Press Association ) WELLINGTON, July 4. The Wool Research Organisation decided today to engage a Hamilton architect, Mr Philip King, to design the organisation's laboratories at Lincoln, Canterbury. The laboratories are expected to cost £250,000. Mr King was architect for the Meat Research Institute's laboratories at Ruakura which were opened by the GovernorGeneral earlier this year. The Lincoln laboratories will have a floor area of 30.000 square feet. They will accommodate 15 to 20 scientists working on the physical, chemical and biological properties of New Zealand wool. An expensive feature of the buildings will be the refrigerated spaces and laboratories with accurate humidity control for the measuring of wool characteristics under standard conditions The site is adjacent to Lincoln Agricultural College and the laboratories will be faced in brick to harmonise with the college buildings. Preliminary sketch plans will be prepared within the next few months Detailed planning will not begin until a scientific director has been appointed and has taken up his position. This is not expected to be until May of next year. Completion of the laboratories is scheduled for 1965.
