RECREATION GROUND
Waipara County Buys Farm j A property of 131 acres, about half-way between the Motunau garage and Scargill, has been bought by the Waipara County Council to be developed as a recreation ground. The council acted on behalf of ratepayers in the eastern end of the county. The property has a raid frontage of about a mile. It was formerly owned by Mr J. D. Boyce, from whom it was bought for about £6OOO. Residents in the district have agreed to pay extra rates as security for the loan to buy the farm. The golf, cricket, and football clubs at Scargill are interested in the development of the ground. The council has set up a sub-committee which will plan the farming of the land to raise money. Wheat is to be grown and sheep to be run. The golf club plans a ninehole course. Each club is expected to develop its own area. About half the ground is rolling, and half flat. A creek runs on the south and east boundaries. There are tarsealed roads on two sides.
