New Deputy-Chief For Qantas
Captain R. P. Ritchie has been appointed deputy-chief executive and de;xs*y-general manager of Qantas Empire Airways. He succeeds Captain G. U. (“Scotty") Allan who retired on June 30. Captain Ritchie, a former Qantas captain, has taken a leading part in buildling up Australia's overseas aircraft fleet and air bine network in the pow-ww period. He joined Qantas as s flnst officer in 1943 and was appointed assistant operations manager in 1949. He ceased flying the company's aircraft regularly in 1951. Before attaining the company’s second most senior post. Captain Ritchie was director of technical services. Captain Ritchie recently returned from a visit to the United States, where he flew the first of Use company's new generation of turbofanpowered Boeing 707 jet airliners. At various times be has evaluated the flight characteristics of numerous modem aircraft in the quest for aircraft suitable for his company.
