Tests Planned At Lakes “The Special Service ROTORUA. July L Experimental plot* in Lake Rotorua and Rcrtoiti are to be treated with sodium arsemlte and a new hormone spray to see if the chemical* can be used to control or eradicate oxygen weed. Aerial spraying of one-aere plots is expected to begin this week or as soon as the weather is suitable. Before and after spraving aurveya wm be made, including underwater investigation* by divert using aqualungs. Officers of the Department of Internal Affairs and the fisheries breach of the Marine Department have already begun work on the surveys. Officials conducting the experiments consider that the effect of the poison on wild fowl and marine life could make large-scale use inadvisable. The result of the tests are expected to be known in two or three months.
