N.Z. SOCIAL SECURITY
“May Not Be World’s Best’* 0 2 Pnu Astooauoni , WELLINGTON. June 30. I “We are ape in this country to think that our social ! security is the best in the world.” said the retiring : Director of Social Security. IMr A. E. T. Williams, at a ■ social function today to mark his retirement. I Perhaps New Zealand was not the best in the world though it gave good coverage, he said. His recent studies led him to believe that other countries were tackling the matter possibly even better. With particular reference to old age provisions in Czechoslovakia. Mr Williams in outlining the benefits rate said: “We might aim at something like it ourselves.” He said the maximum rate of benefit for a certain category of employees in Czechoslovakia was £1320 a year. The percentage rate of benefit was based on the category of employment of which there were three in the system. Other maximum rates were £lOBO and £960 a year.
