Nth. Canterbury Poultry Show Held At Rangiora
Exhibitors from as far afield as Oamaru and Blenheim competed in the North Canterbury Poultry and Pigeon Club’s annual show which opened in the Drill Hall, Ranigiora. yesterday. There were about 575 entries, slightly less than last year. The president of the club (Mr R. I. Vallance) said the over-all standard of the birds was "very satisfac, tory.” The winner of the fancy bantam section was a black ; Pekin hen. “This bird was in beautiful condition and a credit to its owner,” said the [judge (Mr E. W. Tippins, [Christchurch). The Pekin birds and Wyandottes made a reasonably good showing, especially the whites. Many of these were good bantams, said Mr Tippins, but needed to be shown in better condition. The most disappointing class in this section were the black rose comb bantams. These were of a poor quality, said Mr Tippins.
The best utility bird in the show was a Whi'e Leghorn cockerel of good type and in splendid condition, said the judge of the light breeds and commercial class (Mr B. E. Graham, Amberley). The standard of the Minorcas and Anconas was pleasing, although some of the birds showed the illeffects of over-showing, Mr Graham said. The winners of the commercial class were Australorp pullets of good utility character and well matched, said Mr Graham.
The judge of the utility heavy breeds (Mr C. Munnings, Christchurch) said the over-all standard of this section was very pleasing. New Zealand Championships Female utility Plymouth Rock, R. I.
