Bronze Medals Awarded Two bronze medals were awarded yesterdav by the court of directors of the' Royal Humane Society of New Zealand. One went to j Margaret Rose Whyte, aged 11. of St- Andrews. Blen-i helm. and the othe>- to Bruce' Burleigh, aged 23. of 541 Spenser street. Milton. The citation for the award to Margaret Whvte said that j on January 26, 1961. she was approaching a railway cross-, •ng near her home. With her was a 15-months-old baby in a nush-chair. and a girl aged three pushing a wicker pram, | Margaret crossed the line; ahead of the other girl and. had gone some distance when she heard her call out. I-coking back she found the pram caueht in the railwav line*. When she went to help she heard someone call that the railcar was coming. Margaret pulled the other girl from the lines, and then saw that the push-chair with the baby in it had rolled down a slight incline on to the track. She attempted to pull it clear by the axle, rnd had almost done so when the rail-car struck the handles, throwing the pushchair to one side and injuring the baby. Mr Burleigh’s citation said that on February 5. 1961. he was with a firfling party op.
