EXPLOSION ON CRUISER
In Orchard Ready For Launching (N.Z Press Association) HASTINGS. June 12. An explosion wrecked a 26ft cabin cruiser launch, valued at £5OOO. in a Hastings orchard at 3 p.m. on Saturday when the owner and his son were in the cabin and had lit a gas stove In spite of tiae great force of the blast the owner. Mr A. Orbell. escaped with only an injured knee, and his son. Mr J. Orbell. was unscathed except for singed eyebrows Mr Orbell sen's grandson. Brett Single, aged eight who was standing at the open door of the cabin. wa» flung to the deck and then jumped to the ground, suffering only from shock.
Today, Mr Orbell could offer no explanation for the explosion. Mr Orbell has been working for four years on the launch and it was ready to be taken to Lake Taupo on Saturday for trials.
